Gibbons is proud to announce that Thomas J. Cafferty, a Director in the Gibbons Business & Commercial Litigation Department, Michael R. Griffinger, a Director in the Gibbons Business & Commercial Litigation Department, and John T. Wolak, Insurance Practice Team Leader, received “Lawyer of the Year” designations in the 2014 edition of Best Lawyers®.
Since 2009, Best Lawyers® has been designating “Lawyers of the Year” in the U.S. in high-profile legal practice areas. Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.”
Thomas J. Cafferty is the only New Jersey lawyer to be named a “Lawyer of the Year” in the Litigation – First Amendment Law category in the 2014 edition of Best Lawyers®. Mr. Cafferty was recognized in the Newark, NJ region. He has extensive experience in litigating and counseling First Amendment and media issues. With a strong focus on media law, he has served as General Counsel for the New Jersey Press Association for over 30 years and has worked with some of the largest news organizations and newspapers throughout the state.
Michael R. Griffinger is one of only two attorneys named a New Jersey “Lawyer of the Year” in Appellate Law in the Best Lawyers® 2014 edition. Mr. Griffinger has been an active litigator in federal and state courts for over 40 years. John T. Wolak is the only New Jersey lawyer to be named a “2014 Lawyer of the Year” in Insurance Law in the 2014 edition of Best Lawyers®. Mr. Wolak was recognized in the Newark, NJ region. Mr. Wolak represents clients in a wide range of matters, with an emphasis on insurance counseling and complex insurance coverage litigation. He has extensive experience handling complex third party and first party insurance coverage litigation in state and federal courts throughout the region, as well as in international arbitration proceedings.
Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which more than 36,000 leading attorneys cast almost 4.4 million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their practice areas, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice.”
